KECAK DANCE

Tari Kecak is a traditional Balinese dance and musical drama that originated in the 1930s. Initially performed mainly by male performers, the first female Kecak group appeared in 2006. Often referred to as the Ramayana Monkey Chant, this performance features a large circle of at least 150 participants wearing checkered cloth around their waists, rhythmically chanting “cak” while moving their hands and arms in unison. The story portrays a battle from the Ramayana, where the monkey army, led by Hanuman, assists Prince Rama in defeating the evil King Ravana.
